Application Cases of Rickmeier R45 Series External Gear Pumps
Case 1: Lubrication Circulation for 2.5MW Onshore Wind Turbine Gearboxes
Rickmeier R45/100 FL-Z-W-SO gear pumps are deployed as core lubrication feed units for 2.5MW wind turbine main gearboxes, operating continuously under extreme ambient temperatures ranging from -30°C to +90°C. The system circulates ISO VG 320 synthetic gear oil with viscosity between 100–220 cSt at 40°C; the pump runs at 1500 rpm to deliver a stable flow rate of around 95 L/min under a continuous working pressure of 28 bar. Equipped with FKM high-temperature shaft seals and an integrated adjustable relief valve, this pump solves the chronic defects of domestic pumps including air cavitation during cold startup, severe internal leakage under high summer temperatures and rapid gear abrasion. Thanks to outstanding self-priming capacity and low flow pulsation, the unit has achieved over 40,000 hours of trouble-free continuous operation, stabilizing gearbox oil temperature below 75°C and cutting bearing failure rate by 70% across wind farms. Its compact cast iron housing resists vibration from rotating blades, while modular configuration allows flexible integration into limited gearbox installation spaces, complying with global wind power equipment reliability standards.
Case 2: Main Lubrication Pump for Marine Cargo Vessel Main Propulsion Engine
R45/100 series pumps serve as forced lubrication pumps for MAN marine main engines and auxiliary hydraulic power sources for steering gears on bulk carriers. The marine cabin environment features persistent high temperature (50–60°C), severe mechanical vibration and frequent hull tilt up to ±15°, with conveyed media covering ISO VG 100 engine lubricating oil, ISO VG 46 hydraulic oil and light diesel fuel. Configured with anti-corrosion coated pump bodies and high-viscosity adaptive internal components, the pump operates at 1200–1500 rpm with a rated pressure of 25–30 bar. Its reinforced integral structure avoids oil leakage caused by hull sway, and superior anti-cavitation suction performance ensures uninterrupted oil supply even with fluctuating oil tank liquid levels. After two years of transoceanic navigation, the pumps show zero seal leakage, maintain stable lubrication pressure for crankshaft bearings and deliver fast response for steering hydraulic circuits, fully meeting the long-term unattended operation requirements of marine power systems and obtaining major marine classification society certifications.
Beyond wind power and marine sectors, the full R45 series (displacement range: 20–180 cm³/rev) is widely applied to continuous lubrication and hydraulic circulation systems across metallurgical continuous casting lines, thermal power turbine lube stations, large injection molding machines and asphalt mixing plants. Hardened carburized steel gears, wide viscosity adaptability (2.8–1000 cSt) and optional high-temperature SO seal kits enable stable delivery of hydraulic oil, gear oil, thermal conductive oil and heavy fuel oil under heavy-duty 24/7 operation. The built-in pressure relief valve eliminates extra external protection components, while standardized SAE/threaded ports and bidirectional rotation options simplify on-site pipeline layout and maintenance, making the R45 series a universal heavy-duty fluid power solution for reliable industrial lubrication and low-to-medium pressure hydraulic systems worldwide.
