The Emerson AMS TREX2 is the second-generation upgraded handheld field device communicator, a comprehensive iteration of the first-generation TREX designed for commissioning, calibration, loop diagnosis and troubleshooting of HART®, FOUNDATION Fieldbus and WirelessHART process instruments in chemical, pharmaceutical, power, oil & gas and food manufacturing plants.
Compared with the original TREX 1, TREX2 delivers an all-around upgrade in computing power, wireless communication, metering accuracy, field operability, data security and rugged enclosure performance. It adopts a quad-core high-performance processor and 4GB RAM (8x larger memory than the first-gen single-core 800MHz / 512MB configuration), supporting multi-task parallel debugging for batches of field transmitters and control valves without lagging. Built-in low-power Bluetooth enables wireless linkage with the dedicated mobile AMS Device Configurator App, allowing technicians to view loop and diagnostic data remotely without wired cables, improving safety for high-altitude and outdoor hazardous-area operations.
Equipped with a high-precision measurement module with full NIST traceable calibration for 4–20mA signals, TREX2 generates audit-ready calibration records that satisfy strict GMP and power plant compliance requirements. Its enhanced Power-the-Loop function directly powers all passive field instruments without external resistors or multimeters, simplifying on-site wiring workflows. The optimized industrial touchscreen supports thick safety glove operation, while the redesigned intrinsically safe housing features improved heat dissipation and anti-slip grip for stable continuous operation under wide temperature, high-temperature cabinet and outdoor dusty/wet conditions. A brand-new optimized embedded OS adds hierarchical access encryption to prevent unauthorized data deletion or program tampering, securing plant maintenance historical data. The unit preloads DD libraries for over 2,500 third-party instruments, supporting inline valve stroke, friction and dead-band diagnostics via built-in ValveLink software to reduce unplanned downtime.
