Danfoss Unveils Full iC7-Aqua VFD Lineup for Global Water & Wastewater Infrastructure
Danfoss Drives has officially launched its brand-new full portfolio of water-specialized variable frequency drives, branded iC7-Aqua, a next-gen modular VFD platform built exclusively to address unique pain points across municipal water supply, wastewater treatment, desalination, agricultural irrigation and industrial fluid pumping systems. Complementing its mature VLT® AQUA Drive FC 202 legacy product line, the new iC7-Aqua series consolidates Danfoss’s decades of water industry expertise into a unified, digital-first hardware ecosystem, delivering superior energy efficiency, built-in pump protection, grid stability and full IIoT connectivity for water operators worldwide.
The iC7-Aqua portfolio covers two core variants to match diverse project scales and power quality requirements: the standard iC7-Aqua model with power coverage from 0.5–1000 HP (380–480 VAC) for conventional pumping stations, and the iC7-Aqua ULH ultra-low harmonic version ranging 30–250 HP, which achieves THDi below 3% to meet strict IEEE 519 grid standards without extra passive filter cabinets. Every unit integrates native water-specific software algorithms as standard, eliminating costly third-party programming modules. Embedded functions include multi-pump cascade control supporting up to 8 pumps, dry-run protection, anti-cavitation monitoring, automatic deragging cycles to clear pump impeller blockages, water hammer suppression, sleep mode for off-peak pipeline pressure stabilization, and flow compensation to cut municipal pipe leakage by regulating network pressure intelligently.
A standout technical highlight is Danfoss’s patented back-channel cooling design, diverting 90% of drive heat outside electrical control rooms to slash cabinet air-conditioning loads and extend electronic component service life. Integrated condition-based monitoring (CBM) runs edge computing locally within the drive to track motor winding temperature, vibration, pump clogging and mechanical misalignment, enabling predictive maintenance and slashing unplanned plant downtime.
